Making Donations

We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in our hands to make a difference.

At the most basic level, we could not operate and feed hungry people without your help. There are many ways you can support our food bank – everything helps, and we cannot find the words to express how much we appreciate it. We’ll start with this:

Ontario Corporation No.: 1792574  | Registered Charity No.: 81061 7894 RR0001

Cash Donations

You can help feed people with a cash donation.

With our partnerships with wholesale and retail food suppliers, we can purchase $4 worth of food for every $1 you donate.

Mail your cheque or money order to:

Brockville and Area Food Bank
PO Box 522, Station Main
Brockville, ON K6V 5V7

If you wish to give on a regular basis through the year, send your post-dated cheques to the same address or join our PAR program . We issue tax receipts for your total donation at the end of the year.

Online Donations

You can make one-time or scheduled donations to the Brockville & Area Food Bank with your credit card via this secure portal:

Donate Securities

A donation of securities or mutual funds is the most efficient way to give charitably. Since capital gains taxes don't apply, our charity receives the full fair market value when the security is sold, and you get a tax receipt which reflects your larger contribution. This allows you to give more and get more.

E-Transfer

You can donate by e-transfer to:

treasurer
@brockvilleandareafoodbank.ca

We will be happy to send you an income tax receipt. Please send a second email with your name and mailing address and mention the date and amount of your donation.

If you wish to give on a regular basis through the year, send your post-dated cheques to the same address or join our PAR program. We issue tax receipts for your total donation at the end of the year.

Pre-Authorized Credit/Debit Donation

We are partnered with the United Church of Canada to offer a Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) option for donations.

Besides being economical and convenient, using PAR for your gifts to the food bank provides us with a predictable monthly income to help us serve our clients even when you are away. You are giving our Food Bank a dependable flow of contributions, which increases our overall financial stability.

Just complete and sign the Pre-Authorize Remittance Form available below and send it, along with a blank cheque marked VOID to:

Brockville and Area Food Bank
PO Box 522, Station Main
Brockville, ON K6V 5V7

To fill out the form:

  • Top Box: The “gift amount.” (We will add the Account #)
  • Second Box: All your personal information
  • Third Box – read and add the month you want your deductions to start.
  • Bottom Form: Your signature & date.

Food quality and freshness

We always check food items to make sure they meet quality standards.

Your food donation item should:

  • Have the original manufacturer’s label on it.
  • Have a label with the “expiry/best before” date in the future.
  • Not be bulging or rusted (cans).
  • Be intact with no rips or punctures (bags or boxes).
  • Sealed with no cracks or breaks (glass jars).
  • In an unopened package.
  • Not have been exposed to hazardous conditions like a fire or flood.
  • Be refrigerated or frozen (perishable items like meat, eggs, produce).

Grow Fresh Produce

Most of our food items are shelf stable (canned goods, pasta etc.) So fresh produce is a very welcome donation! Our visitors appreciate the flavour and nutritional value.

During the spring, summer and fall months, we will gladly accept produce from your personal or community gardens.

There is no maximum or minimum limit on produce donations. With our food distribution network, we help reduce waste of excess produce by making sure it reaches people who are hungry.

Hold a Fundraiser

We are often asked about third parties holding a fundraiser to benefit our food bank. Thank you for your interest in supporting our operation! Please see our policy on third party fundraisers here:

Planned Giving

Legacy gifts are becoming a popular means of supporting a charity you believe in. Please keep us in mind when drafting or updating your will!

Your lawyer can help you, and we would be happy to answer any questions you have.

Here is a quick reference guide to the process of planned giving.

Help Us Thank Our Volunteers

If you have a business that is not food-related, you can still support our Food Bank.

Our volunteers work long hours, and we always look for ways to acknowledge and thank them for their service to the community. Your donation of retail products or services would be a valuable addition to our volunteer recognition program.

In 2021, Brockville business Vanity Hair and Beauty Salon donated 50 haircuts as Christmas gifts for our volunteers. A wonderful showing of community Christmas spirit!
